Teachers' Material for Students

For Mr. Wayne Chang's high school students (09/2009) --

This year we (HS4) are using a textbook edited by a group of Carnegie Mellon University professors.  The textbook even has a companion website that contains many online resources and practices.

Chinese Cartoons
Chinese Programming on TV

An RCS parent asked about Chinese cartoons on TV.  According to RCS parents Leona Chan & Stacey Liu, some Chinese programs are available on TV through the DishNetwork.  DishNetwork has an optional package that includes a dedicated channel for children called "Yo-yo TV."  Yo-yo TV also has a DVD collection of Chinese cartoons.  Stacey used them last year for her second grade kids, for the last 10 minutes of the class time  (they summarized a cartoon's story, then discussed what they saw, in Chinese); she says that Yo-yo did an excellent job on its educational program, & she highly recommends it.

Please note that this is not a recommendation that you subscribe to the Dish Network.  This link is provided only to help you get information about one source of Chinese programming, so that you can see if it fits your needs.  The Dish Network is not affiliated with Rockville Chinese School, nor does it sponsor any of our school activities.
